Product Uses Fernox Flux is a beige "soft" paste which is easily applied to joint areas prior to soldering. It is designed specifically for the soldering of copper plumbing systems, although a range of metals/alloys can be jointed with it. It contains no zinc chloride.
Application and Dosage Clean the pipe to remove metal swarf/grease. Apply the flux carefully to the outside of the pipe surface in the area in which the joint is to be made. Only a very thin layer of flux is required. We do not recommend applying this to the inside of the fitting because any excess flux will be pushed into the tube when pushing the two halves of the joint together. Do not use too much flux. This flux can be used effectively with both end feed and integral ring solder fittings. It is also appropriate for lead containing or lead free solders. Fry Powerflow wire or Fry Grade 99C wire are recommended. To minimise the likelihood of corrosion difficulties it is recommended that the system be flushed out with water as soon as possible after completion. This can be aided by the use of a proprietary cleanser such as Fernox Restorer.
Packaging, Handling and Storage Fernox Flux is available in 225 gm and 450 gm sized tubs. Fernox Flux is classified as an irritant, and prolonged skin contact should be avoided. Eye protection should be worn particularly during the soldering operation. Fumes from soldering processes should not be breathed in and soldering in well ventilated areas is recommended. For detailed information please see relevant Health and Safety Data Sheets which are available on request.
